French Onion Soup

4 sweet large onion, thinly sliced, I use a hand slicer

4 tbsp butter

2 tbsp Worchestershire sauce

1 tbsp balsamic vinegar

3 garlic gloves minced

1 tsp brown sugar

1 tsp dried thyme

1 tsp salt

3 tbsp flour

32 oz vegetable broth

32 oz beef broth

1/2 red wine

1/2 white wine

Shredded Gruyere cheese & cubed french bread, or croutons

 

Cook on medium low heat in large pot, onions, butter, worchestershire sauce, vinegar,

garlic, brown sugar, thyme & salt for 25 minutes, covered & stirring frequently

Stir in flour, let cook 5 minutes

Add broths & wine, stir well

Cook on low for 1 hour or more

 

Place soup in bowl add bread or croutons

top oup off with Gruyere cheese, broil till cheese is crispy
